Too often we put things off because we think that somehow there will be a better time or circumstance to do tasks later on. We think to ourselves, "I'll do that later." "I work on that later." "I'll worry about that later." Later, later, later.
But, the truth is, it is later in the day, and later in our lives than we realize. Time is a finite substance that each of us have been given, and no one is promised tomorrow. We are but mere mortals. Yes, those are scary thoughts, but they are also sobering thoughts. These thoughts allow us to put things into perspective and challenge ourselves to quit putting things off until a later date.
Creedence Clearwater Revival wrestles with these same thoughts in one of their songs:
"You better learn it fast; you better learn it young,"Someday" really never comes. And, we should all learn to stop living as if it does. To that end, we must also learn to turn off our autopilot mode. Sure, this may come off as another attempt at expounding on the virtues of carpe diem, seize the day, and the like, but it is simple and true advice.
'Cause, 'Someday' Never Comes."
We have to do the things we want to put off. We have to plow through the obstacles in our way. We have move ahead, even when the road seems uncertain. When we are stopped or waiting in a place/time/circumstances we stop growing and improving -- we need to move, act, do, and decide.
That means starting today.
